Are Trans-Fats Defective Products ?

November 8, 2013

The Food and Drug Administration will force a ban of heart – clogging trans fats. It is expected the ban will prevent 20,000 heart attacks and 7000 deaths per year.

If you want to talk about a defective product this is it. Trans fats are uncommon in nature, but can be created artificially by chemical reaction by adding hydrogen to unsaturated fats.Trans fats are known to raise the bad levels of cholesterol, known as LDL, and lower the good cholesterol levels, called HDL.

Many will say the government should not get involved in regulating business. But who should pay the health care costs if business is allowed to continue to incorporate the product in processed foods?
