Talk Texting With Your Loved Ones

May 10, 2013

Besides being a personal injury attorney, I am a runner. I run all over Buffalo and Western New York. What amazes me is the number of people I see texting or talking while driving. I see them jolted into awareness, taking quick action when they bring their eyes back to the road. Texting while driving is now a greater hazard then drinking and driving among teenagers.

Texting while driving causes 3,000 teen deaths and 300,000 injuries each year, according to researchers at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, New Hyde Park, New York. Sending or receiving a text takes the driver’s eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. At 45 miles per hour a car travels 303 feet in 4.6 seconds. It’s like driving the length of a football field blind.

In our homes. We need to have discussions; parents to children and children to parents because the problem isn’t limited to teens. Let’s make our roads safer. Talk to your loved ones about texting and driving.
