“Stuck Paying the Bill”: Kate Feroleto Explains Criticisms of Proposed Car Accident Reforms

May 7, 2026

While lower car insurance premiums are always an enticing offer, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposed reforms to car accident lawsuits could leave victims and their families sorely lacking the compensation they need to cover medical bills and living costs.

Attorney Kate Feroleto, serving as the Western Affiliate president of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, spoke with News 10 in Rochester to describe concerns she and trial lawyers across the state have for their clients if the proposal goes into effect.

Among other concerns, the proposed reforms could leave innocent drivers in receiving less than half compensation for their damages depending on the level of fault of parties involved and whether they are insured.

We have previously reviewed in deeper detail how Gov. Hochul’s proposal could hurt car accident victims’ cases. You can watch the entire News 10 segment, as well as an extended interview with Kate, on the WHEC website.
