Sharing the Road with Motorcycles

Spring is in the air and motorcycle owners are chomping at the bit in anticipation of getting their bikes back on the road after a long winter. My neighbor, for example, recently bought a new bike and this year splurged on a shed to store it in. He is equipped with a beautiful bike, helmet, appropriate clothing and footwear. However, he needs our help to stay safe on the road.

As a personal injury attorney I am sadly all too familiar with the consequences of dangerous driving. As drivers of cars and trucks we all have a responsibility to those on motorcycles. The New York Times reported today that there needs to be increased safety in highway work areas. Approximately 160 people are killed and 11,000 injured each year from unsafe conditions, just from pavement edge drop-offs alone. The steeper the drop off the more dangerous the condition becomes.
