Drivers Playing Pokémon Go While Driving

August 18, 2016

You may know Pokémon Go, a free location based game designed for cell phone devices, which was released in July 2016. In the game the player uses GPS technology in cell phones to capture Pokémon. Did you know some people are playing the game while trying to drive? Many people are supportive of this game as it gets users out of their house to local landmarks and other locations in the area. However, driving a vehicle while playing this game has proved to be very dangerous.

Recently in Baltimore, a Police Officer was wearing a body camera and captured video of a distracted driver who crashed into a police car while playing the game. As you can see in the video, the officers were not sitting in their patrol car and luckily were not injured. After the driver crashed into the parked police car he told the police he was playing the game. In Buffalo, New York, you might see people playing the game at popular spots like the Elmwood/Bidwell area, Delaware Park, and Canalside, but playing while driving is highly dangerous. Distracted driving often leads to serious accidents that could require the help of a car accident lawyer or personal injury lawyer to handle the legal aftermath. In New York State, it is illegal to play games while driving, and the consequences can be severe, even if no injuries occur.

Please remind others to avoid distracted driving. Whether it’s playing Pokémon Go or any other distraction, it’s crucial to keep your attention on the road. In cases involving large vehicles, you may also need the expertise of a truck accident lawyer to navigate the complex legal challenges that come with these incidents.
