Recently Troop 42 drove to Elderwood in Wheatfield NY to visit with the residents of the nursing facility. Not only was this a great opportunity for the residents to interact with the children, but it provided the kids with a great learning experience. The scouts learned about the great contributions made by some of the residents to their community during the course of their lives. The scouts also shared stories of their own family members and being able to help them when needed. There was a bingo session which brought many smiles and great conversation among the scouts and residents. The children learned that the residents each have their own individual contributions to society and that they are more than simply people who require assistance. This was a valuable experience for the scouts and parents who look forward to doing it again soon.
