Bus Driver Convicted of Manslaughter – “Gross and Wanton” Driving Cited in Death of Passengers

November 8, 2012

The driver of low-fare Sky Express caused the bus crash which killed four and injured many last year. The bus was headed for New York from North Carolina. As a New York truck accident and bus accident attorney I can tell you most bus drivers and truck drivers are conscientious. However, some just don’t follow safety rules.

15 witnesses including bus passengers described erratic driving, speeding up, slowing down, and weaving before the tour bus overturned, killing four and maiming other passengers. The Judge found the bus driver’s conduct was “so gross and wanton” that he had little choice but to find the driver guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Hopefully, this will get the attention of companies who push their drivers or allow their drivers to disregard safety issues to beat the clock, cheat on hours and fudge log books.

Thanks to all of the safe drivers who protect their passengers and others on the road.
