Air Traffic in a Tunnel

August 10, 2009

In a New York Times article “Steven J. Korotky, a flight instructor, called the uncontrolled Hudson River air traffic corridor a “tunnel,” and a tight one at that. Kenneth Jacobsen, who has flown privately chartered helicopters in New York since 1982, said that while he considered aviation safe in the congested skies above the river, there could be a dozen or so aircraft to contend with at peak moments.”

The fact is nine people including 5 Italian tourist celebration a 25th wedding anniversary died needlessly in the airplane helicopter crash. The DOT has called for action as the privately chartered aircraft are less regulated and less safe than major carriers.
