I – 290 Pile up Reminds Us to Be Ready for Winter Driving Conditions.

November 12, 2013

Approximately 20 cars crashed and piled up on the I-290 ramp to I-190 S. in Tonawanda, New York last night closing the ramp for hours. Fortunately, no one was injured seriously. It is a good reminder to get ready for winter driving conditions. Poor driving conditions were reported in Niagara County, Chautauqua County, Cattaraugus County, Genesee County and other parts of Western New York.

We need to be ready for overpasses that freeze before the rest of the roadway.

Let’s make sure all of our family members have snow brushes in their cars so that drivers can have fully clean windows for complete visibility.

If you have a rearwheel drive car, a couple tubes of sand will help with traction. The same goes for pickup trucks.

Check your tire tread depth and inflation.

Winter driving can be dangerous, with more darkness, poor traction, narrowed lanes, snow and ice on roads, etc. let’s minimize the potential for accidents for family, loved ones and others on the road.
