Water safety – Stay Safe this July 4th

July 2, 2012

I recently wrote about Mario Vittone’s article, “Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning.” If you have not read the article I urge you to do so. This information is not just for parents of young children but for everyone who spends time in and around the water. The article can be found here.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently posted statistics about drownings that occur over the 4th of July Holiday in the U.S. In 2011 25 children died due to drowning over the Holiday. The CPSC reports that 390 pool or spa related drownings occur annually for children younger than 15 years of age.

This Holiday please stay vigilant and never leave your children (or friends) unsupervised in a pool, lake, ocean or even hot tub and be familiar with the signs of drowning.
