Unfortunately, we also see some companies push their drivers, and some operators who cut corners at the expense of the public. Last week, both East and West lanes of the New York State Thruway, I – 90 were closed due to a jackknife 18 wheeler caused by speeding. Also, the Queen Elizabeth Way, QEW West was closed near the Peace Bridge, Niagara section.
The most creative way of cutting corners I’ve seen in a while occurred a few days ago. A cost conscious trucker was caught cutting expenses trying to beat New York State easy pass tolls. Attached to his front license plate was wire that went through the motor compartment into the cab of the rig. As he passed through the easy pass booth he would pull the wire to move the license plate so it could not be read. He also had the rear license plate bent so the camera could not pick it up.
Truckers can be very creative.
